About Us

Sarcoma Warriors was formed as a way to show support for sarcoma patients during a local charity 5-K run in the summer of 2010. A team of people consisting of patients and their families, physicians, nurses, and medical personnel was assembled to support the mission of the race, but more importantly to have fun. This team ranged from a patient who was at the time a brand-new amputee to several people that had competitively raced in marathons and included everyone in between!

In order to bind the group together in a light-hearted way, a t-shirt had to be created. Some of us agreed with patients’ dislike of the word survivor to describe himself or herself since our patients universally feel like they are active fighters. None of them have laid down and simply waited to see if they were going to survive. They have gotten up, gotten involved, and many of them have won their fight. They were, in short, Warriors.

We had a local t-shirt company design a shirt that had the name of our merry little band on the front and three little words on the back: Unite, Fight, Win. None of us (except for the marathon runners) broke any records, but we did plant the seed for the organization highlighted in this website. We may not have won that race, but we are fighting with the Warriors to win the biggest race of all…
